Mark Stoops’ Kentucky Wildcats and James Franklin’s Penn State Nittany Lions are geared up for the Citrus Bowl. Here’s everything you need to know about the game.

For the first time since 1999, the Kentucky Wildcats and the Penn State Nittany Lions will face each other. The last time the two teams met, they faced each other in the Outback Bowl and Penn State came out on top with a 26-14 victory. Believe it or not, the two teams actually met fairly regularly back in the middle of the 1970’s as well.

From 1975 to 1978, Kentucky and Penn State met once a year with the two teams splitting the four match ups and the series being tied at 2-2 prior to that 1999 Outback Bowl. Now, the Wildcats and the Nittany Lions will meet again.

Kentucky got to this point thanks to the unbelievable running ability of Benny Snell. The star running back has been the focal point of UK’s offense all season as he’s run for 1,305 yards and 14 touchdowns. The Wildcats will compliment Snell with dual threat quarterback Terry Wilson, who has thrown for 1,768 yards, 11 touchdowns, and eight interceptions while also having run for 518 yards and four scores.

Penn State, meanwhile, will look to quarterback Trace McSorley to lead them to victory. McSorley’s senior season hasn’t been as great as Penn State wanted it to be, but he still threw for 2,285 yards and 16 touchdowns while running for 723 yards and 11 touchdowns.
