The Miami Hurricanes and USF Bulls have scheduled a series of football games for the late 2020s.

There are seven FBS football programs in the state of Florida. Two of those teams, the Miami Hurricanes and USF Bulls, have mutually agreed to a series of games. The Miami football twitter account announced the years earlier Tuesday.

South Florida will host the middle game of the 2-for-1 series between the two teams. Games will be held in Miami in 2025 and 2028. Tampa, home of the Bulls, will be the game’s host in 2027.

Despite both teams calling Florida home, they have only met six times in the programs’ histories. Of those six previous matchups, the Hurricanes have won five. Their last meeting was in 2013 when the Hurricanes prevailed 49-21 under then head coach Al Golden. Now Florida State head coach Willie Taggart was the losing coach in that battle. South Florida’s last win came in 2010 when Randy Shannon led the Canes in his final season.

As a program, the Hurricanes have not shied away from tough out of conference games. Just last year they opened up the season against a top-ten team in the LSU Tigers. They went back to the SEC but stayed in Florida for the 2019 season’s opener with the Florida Gators. Looking at the future schedules, Miami has battles upcoming with Alabama, Texas A&M and Michigan State in the next three years. A long-standing battle with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish also awaits in the late 2020s into the 2030s for this team.

For South Florida, testing themselves against a solid ACC squad could elevate their program. They’ve also looked to big schools for out-of-conference games. This year USF will play Wisconsin and Georgia Tech. Following that they have games scheduled with the Texas Longhorns, Florida Gators, Louisville Cardinals and Boise State Broncos in the future.

Teams are looking for tougher out-of-conference games to boost their national resume. Cupcake games to start the season are increasingly being looked down on. Testing the team early makes a cast for poll voters that, even in a loss, a team may be better than the preseason rankings peg them.
