Stundog millionaires

After earning their way onto the TakeOver: Cardiff card, Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster proved that yes, the pop-punk kids and the mod kids can work together for a better tomorrow. Andrews and Webster became the first Welsh champions in WWE history, defeating Grizzled Young Veterans and Gallus to win NXT UK tag team gold.

A triple threat on paper yes, but it seemed like either Andrews or Webster were in the ring for around 95 percent of this match. Like the UK Championship match, this is all about the struggle of the underdog babyfaces, staving off defeat with a series of increasingly impressive offensive maneuvers. In this case though, Andrews and Webster clawed for every opening they could get, until they found one that led to victory.

With a hometown crowd going wild for them, this match became a showcase for them. Particularly Webster, who hasn’t had much time to shine on NXT UK TV, but was out here hitting Canadian (Welsh) Destroyers and 630 sentons on fools.

Webster and Andrews’ tandem offense was on full display too, with stereo dives, a jumping knee strike-reverse rana combo, and Andrews hitting a moonsault off the apron while Webster swings around the ring post like a monkey to hit a rana. And more, like so much more, including multiple instances of breathtaking saves.

The biggest and best save of course comes with the match’s ending. Grizzled Young Veterans hit Webster with Ticket to Mayhem, and with no one in sight, seemingly will be retaining their titles. Instead of immediately going for the cover, Gibson pauses for a few moments to direct Drake to dive on and take out Gallus, which he does with the intended effect.

Once Gibson finally does make the cover however, he does not realize that Andrews has climbed the turnbuckle behind him. At a count of two, Andrews comes crashing down onto Gibson with a shooting star press, then pulls Webster onto Gibson to secure the pinfall and the NXT UK Tag Team Championships.

Tag team matches on NXT Prime TakeOvers almost always rule, the tag team match at Blackpool ruled, and this match in Cardiff lived up to the standard.
