Willie Taggart and the Florida State Seminoles could use a landmark win. Can they get that against Clemson in Death Valley?

Once upon a time, Florida State was the better team when the Clemson Tigers and the Seminoles took the field. Nowadays, FSU seems to be lost in the wilderness while Clemson is capable of competing for national titles year in and year out. But Florida State is looking to overcome the current difference in the two programs and put itself back on the map against the Tigers.

But upsetting Clemson in Death Valley won’t be an easy task. Sure, Kendal Briles has helped Florida State’s offense show some potential this season, but it’ll take more than just the ability to score a few points on Boise State, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisville, and North Carolina State to take down the Tigers in their own stadium.

Trevor Lawrence, although in a bit of a sophomore slump, remains one of the most talented quarterbacks in the country. The sophomore quarterback will have the chance to break out of his slump against the Seminoles on Saturday afternoon.

Prediction

Dabo Swinney and Willie Taggart have their respective teams in two different places right now. Swinney and the Tigers are looking to continue competing for championships while Taggart and the Seminoles are simply looking to rebuild a once-proud program and regain relevance in the ACC. FSU has shown some improvements as the Noles have back-to-back wins over ACC opponents in their past two games.

A win against the defending national champs would definitely help FSU accomplish its goal of gaining relevance once more and would also derail Clemson’s championship aspirations. Don’t expect that to happen though. The Tigers should come out on top in this game despite improvements from FSU’s offense.

Score: Clemson 49, Florida State 24
