Adam Abdul-Jabbar was booked for assault with a deadly weapon.

An ugly incident has hit home for NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

TMZ reported early Friday morning that Kareem’s son, Adam Abdul-Jabbar, has been arrested for assault with a deadly weapon in Orange County, California.

He’s alleged to have stabbed a family neighbor multiple times, though the wounds were described as non-life-threatening.

Adam, who is 28 years old and was listed at 6-foot-7 and 180 pounds at the time of his booking, “was arrested without incident,” per TMZ.

Adam Abdul-Jabbar has been known to generally avoid making headlines

Much like his famous father, Adam is known to avoid making headlines and even less so with negativity. His last major media appearance came on a 2017 episode of “Celebrity Family Feud.” Notably, he also appeared with his Hall of Fame father in a 1995 episode of “Full House.”

(Not that you asked, but that episode is entitled “Air Jesse,” and Kareem coaches up John Stamos to compete in a celebrity basketball game.)

It’s unclear what will happen next or what details will follow, but as of Friday morning Adam is no longer in law enforcement custody.

Kareem, widely regarded as the greatest college basketball player of all time for his three transcendent years at UCLA, retired from the game in 1989 after two decades in the NBA. He remains the league’s all-time leading scorer. He won six titles and six MVP awards between the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers.

At a time in which national healing and reconciliation weighs heavily on so many minds, the sincere hope is that this family and the community it calls home can do some healing of its own.
