Ohio State football to wear ‘EQUALITY’ helmet decal

Ohio State football helmets will feature a new helmet sticker as the Buckeyes will wear an “EQUALITY” decal as they continue their social justice efforts.

Ohio State football players and coaches have been vocal about their social justice initiatives and efforts this year and that’ll continue when the Buckeyes take the field when their season starts on Oct. 24.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Ohio State football helmets would include a social justice decal, but what the specific decal would be was not known. But now it’s known that Ohio State football helmets will feature an “EQUALITY” sticker.

The news comes from Bill Rabinowitz of Buckeye Xtra who writes the sticker will be in all-caps and in black letters and adorned at the bottom of the back of the helmets.

“We’re really proud of our players,” Ohio State football head coach Ryan Day said in a conference call Tuesday. “This is something that they’ve led from the inside out, something they feel strong about. And I think, like I’ve said from the beginning, it’s the job of our coaches and the head coach to advocate for the players and their voices.”

Ohio State assistant athletic director for player development Ryan Stamper said he and Ohio State’s leadership council had considered a few different options before settling on the equality sticker.

“One thing we wanted to do is have one message that was something the entire team agreed with,” Stamper told The Dispatch. “Meeting with the leadership committee and others, that was something that everybody felt was a strong statement and word for our team and what we believe in, and we’re going put it on the helmet and pretty much show the country with everything that’s been going on.

If you’re not for equality, you’re not for Ohio State football. This is something that should not be controversial or have angry fans on social media boycotting the Buckeyes for being political.
