Veteran slugger Albert Pujols has paid Cardinals stud Yadier Molina the best compliment possible, calling him the best catcher of his time.

St. Louis Cardinals fans are still doing backflips after it was announced the team had agreed to terms with club legend Yadier Molina to return. While he may be 38 years old, Molina is still a standout on the diamond and can help St. Louis push for a pennant this year.

When the season does begin, Molina will have the confidence knowing that many out there consider him one of the best catchers of his generation. That list also features Albert Pujols.

Albert Pujols just paid Yadier Molina an incredible compliment

In a recent interview with Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Pujols didn’t hold back and said Molina is without question the greatest catcher of his time. You better believe Molina was fired up to hear about this as well.

The two are former teammates from Pujols’ St. Louis Days, with Pujols even saying he’d like to retire at the same time as Molina and try and enter the Hall of Fame together. Could you imagine if that were to go down?

As for Molina, he’s getting ready to begin his 18th year with the Cardinals. In that time, the sensational backstop has recorded 2,001 hits, 160 homers and 932 RBI. As strong as he is at the plate, Molina is better behind it.

Defensively, Molina is nothing short of impressive and his rocket for a right arm has thrown out countless would-be stealers over his years in the bigs. Between his ways on offense and defense, Cardinals fans are hoping he’ll have a strong enough case to head to Cooperstown one day. If you ask Pujols, he most certainly deserves that honor.
