Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones was called for a penalty during Friday’s preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings, even though he wasn’t playing.

The Kansas City Chiefs had one final chance to get some in-game reps before the start of the regular-season. As it turns out, one player is seemingly getting reps, even though they were not active for the third and final preseason game.

During Kansas City’s game against the Minnesota Vikings, an on-field official called defensive lineman Chris Jones for a foul. There is one problem — Jones was not even on the field for the Chiefs. In fact, Jones tweeted his reaction to hearing his name called despite being inactive.

Chiefs: Chris Jones called for penalty despite not playing in preseason finale

That is not a good sign for a player is called for fouls if they are not even in the game.

Jones was ruled out for the preseason finale prior to kickoff. Earlier this week, Jones missed practice due to a sinus infection.

The Chiefs decided to give their starers some snaps against the Vikings on Friday evening. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes led the Chiefs offense for two drives, where he completed eight-of-nine pass attempts for 117 yards and two touchdowns. One of those scores went to wide receiver Tyreek Hill on a 35-yard pass.

It was a nice warmup for the Chiefs as they prepare for their season opener against the Cleveland Browns. And if we learned one thing, it’s that Jones is making an impact on the team, even when he’s not playing.
