South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer had high praise for Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett.

Shane Beamer is off to a decent start with the South Carolina Gamecocks, getting a couple wins over Eastern Illinois and East Carolina. This week, the Gamecocks will take on the Georgia Bulldogs, an absolute juggernaut.

Georgia could be without JT Daniels, the Bulldogs’ starting quarterback, as he deals with an injury. Daniels was out on Saturday, but the Bulldogs’ offense didn’t miss a beat as Stetson Bennett stepped in for Daniels. He completed 10-of-12 passes for 288 yards and five touchdowns against UAB.

While that stellar performance was against the Blazers, it was more than enough to catch Beamer’s attention.

As Mike Griffith of Dawg Nation reports, Beamer believes Georgia’s backup quarterback who took the reins of the offense this past week “is a heck of a competitor and player.” Beamer also noted that Georgia head coach Kirby Smart appeared to have “a ton of confidence in [Bennett] to get the job done.”

South Carolina won’t underestimate Stetson Bennett if he starts for Georgia in Week 3 vs. the Gamecocks

Of course, those weren’t the only kind words South Carolina’s head coach had for the Bulldogs before the Gamecocks face them this coming Saturday. Beamer, who was previously an assistant on Smart’s staff from 2016-2017, heaped some praise in the direction of Will Muschamp, former South Carolina head coach and current Georgia assistant.

While Beamer noted that Muschamp wouldn’t have inside knowledge about South Carolina’s current schemes and plans, Beamer said Muschamp is familiar with the Gamecocks’ players and “is a great coach.”

“None of the schemes are alike, what we’re doing here compared to last year,” Beamer told Dawg Nation. “He’s obviously going to know personnel about certain guys, offense, defense and special teams.”
