Ed Orgeron and the LSU Tigers are hitting the road and heading to Starkville, Mississippi to face off against Mike Leach and the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

LSU’s season started off in a manner the Tigers likely didn’t find enjoyable. On the road against the UCLA Bruins, the Tigers fell short and their defense was exposed. But after that 38-27 season-opening loss, LSU responded by thumping McNeese State 34-7 and then throttling Central Michigan 49-21.

Meanwhile, the Mississippi State Bulldogs have been up and down through the first three weeks of the season. After staging a thrilling comeback in a 35-34 win over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and then beating NC State 24-10 in week two, MSU was stunned by the Memphis Tigers, losing 31-29 this past week.

Both teams have had ups and downs and both teams have failed to live up to their potential so far this season. That’s resulted in both Ed Orgeron and Mike Leach drawing plenty of criticism for how their teams are performing. Whoever loses will earn more criticism while the winner will get a breath of fresh air and some pressure taken off of them.

LSU vs Mississippi State Odds Week 4

  • Point spread: LSU -2.5
  • Moneyline: LSU – 130, Mississippi State +110
  • Over/Under: 56.0 points

According to WynnBET, the Tigers are a slight favorite here even though this game is happening in Starkville. Given how Mississippi State has struggled at times to start the season, it makes sense that the Tigers would be favored over the Bulldogs.

LSU vs Mississippi State Prediction Week 4

Mississippi State’s offense is radically different from the one that gave the Tigers trouble in week one. The UCLA Bruins were incredibly balanced in the way they attacked LSU’s defense, running for 223 yards while throwing for 260 thanks to some explosive passing plays.

The Bulldogs operate the Air Raid and are averaging 361 passing yards on 54.3 passing attempts per game. MSU will want to throw the ball often against the Tigers, who do a good job of limiting passing attacks to 193 passing yards per game. MSU’s offensive strength will be matched up against LSU’s defensive strength, which will make this game fascinating to watch.

LSU’s offense has thrived with Max Johnson at quarterback and he’ll look to do some damage to a very respectable Mississippi State defense. The Tigers may not be what they were in 2019, but this team still has enough talent to go into Starkville and give State some trouble. Considering how Mississippi State has had trouble against Louisiana Tech and Memphis, a team as talented as LSU should come out on top here.

Final score prediction: LSU 31, Mississippi State 27
