LSU and Mississippi State both need to start SEC play off with a win. Will it be the Tigers or the Bulldogs who come out on top?

We’re three weeks into the college football season and the Mississippi State Bulldogs have already hosted one team from Louisiana so far. When facing off against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, Mississippi State needed a miracle comeback that came at a breakneck pace. MSU rushed back and got the win over LA Tech thanks to that 4th quarter surge, winning 35-34 despite trailing 34-14 early in the 4th quarter.

Unfortunately for Mississippi State, the Bulldogs weren’t able to pull off those same sort of heroics against Memphis this past week and State shouldn’t expect to be able to do the same against a team as talented as LSU. Sure, we’ve seen MSU handle NC State, beating the Wolfpack 24-10, but Mike Leach’s Bulldogs haven’t played up to their potential and fans are getting restless.

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron is more than familiar with restless and rabid football fans. The Tigers won a championship in 2019 with a remarkable team and brilliant coaching staff that Orgeron assembled, but things have gone south since then. While a step back was expected given how much of the 2019 team ended up leaving, the Tigers were stunningly mediocre in 2020 and only managed to go 5-5 during that season.

The first loss LSU suffered last year came at the hands of Leach and the Bulldogs. Mississippi State is still working on getting the Air Raid off the ground, but it was firing on all cylinders in Baton Rouge to start the 2020 season. KJ Costello threw for 623 yards and five touchdowns en route to a 44-34 MSU win. LSU has a chance to get some revenge in a game that the Tigers must win if Orgeron is going to get some pressure off his back. If the Tigers don’t win this game, things will get a bit more intense for LSU’s head coach.
