With Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence struggling with turnovers in 2021, could he reach the record?

Lawrence would be in good company if he broke said record, as it’s held by none other than Peyton Manning.

Through the first three weeks of the season, Lawrence has had at least two interceptions in every game. For the Jaguars case, we can only hope that doesn’t remain a trend moving forward.

Manning, of course, went on to have a Hall of Fame career, with two Super Bowl titles, one with the Indianapolis Colts and another with the Denver Broncos. Lawrence was drafted with similar expectations to be the savior of the Jaguars franchise.

Trevor Lawrence stats: Could he set rookie interception record?

For Lawrence to set that record, he would have to keep pace with Manning, which will be tough. Manning had 28 interceptions in a 16-game season. While Lawrence does have an extra game, which would be considered a leg up in attainting such a record, it would still be a surprise if he doesn’t start figuring things out around midseason.

Lawrence is far too talented to be considered a bust right away. So was Manning, and it often just takes time for even the most talented prospects to figure out an NFL offense. Lawrence is seeing this first-hand.

At Clemson, Lawrence was ahead of the learning curve. He still is as far as rookies go, but the NFL game is so much faster than college. For now, defenses aren’t having much trouble reading Lawrence’s eyes and directives. That ought to change, eventually.
