Kyle Schwarber and Gerrit Cole have some history when it comes to Wild Card games. That continued on as the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees face off.

The Boston Red Sox were wise to go out and get Kyle Schwarber at the trade deadline. Though, at the time, it seems unlikely that the Red Sox’ front office knew just how brilliant that move would turn out to be.

That’s because they probably didn’t have any expectations of being in the 2021 AL Wild Card game facing Gerrit Cole and the New York Yankees. But, because the Yankees made the decision to start Cole, Schwarber got the chance to face a pitcher he’s more than familiar with.

Schwarber has Cole’s number and he reminded New York’s pitcher of that fact when he hit a home run out past right field in the bottom of the third inning.

Chicago Cubs fans are enjoying reminiscing about Kyle Schwarber hitting home runs off Gerrit Cole

This isn’t the first time Schwarber was able to get a hold of a pitch from Cole in a Wild Card game. Schwarber has some success when facing Gerrit Cole in the postseason. Just ask the Chicago Cubs and their fans.

The last time a home run like this happened was back in 2015 during the NL Wild Card Game, when Schwarber hit a solo shot in the top of the third. Schwarber and the Cubs would go on to beat Cole and the Pirates 4-0.

And of course, it looks like Cubs fans are thrilled to see Schwarber hit a home run off Cole on this stage.

Given that the Chicago Cubs weren’t able to make it into the playoffs this season, there’s no shame in Cubs fans finding something to remind them of a much more enjoyable season. Schwarber hitting a home run off Cole is fun for just about everyone (not including Yankees fans, that is).

Next. Never forget, Kyle Schwarber already has Gerrit Cole’s number. dark
