Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams making a brilliant play seems to have impressed Baker Mayfield.

It sure seems like a former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback is impressed with how a current Oklahoma quarterback is performing. Baker Mayfield is reacting to an absolutely bizarre play from Caleb Williams that helped the Sooners stay unbeaten.

Late in the fourth quarter of the Sooners‘ game against the Kansas Jayhawks, Oklahoma had the ball and was driving against the Kansas defense. But the Jayhawks were able to force a fourth-and-one situation and it appeared as if they would be able to stop the Sooners and force a pivotal turnover on downs.

However, as the Sooners appeared to be halted on a running play at the line scrimmage, Williams rushed in and grabbed the ball from Kennedy Brooks and then got a first down for his team.

That sort of attention and focus from Williams helped the Sooners win and it caught everyone’s attention, including Mayfield.

The Sooners have been fortunate to have a long line of talented and remarkable quarterbacks come through their program in recent years. Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley has been innovative in the way he’s designed the Sooners offense to help quarterbacks thrive, but there’s no way that even he could have drawn up a play like this.

It’s just a really good, heads-up move from Williams. And because Williams was paying attention to what was going on, the Sooners went on to win 35-23.
