ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit unveiled his rankings of the top four college football teams after Week 8.

With Week 8 of the 2021 college football season wrapped up, we’re starting to get closer to the end of the season, which means the college football playoffs are also getting closer and closer. Only four teams will get in, so it’s important to keep an eye on how things shake out over the next few weeks.

While he’s not part of any formal ranking system, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit does have a large platform with a significant following, and his opinions carry a lot of weight in college football. So, when Herbstreit revealed who he’d have as the top four teams, it’s worth taking a look at.

According to Herbstreit, the Georgia Bulldogs are his best team, Ohio State Buckeyes second, Alabama Crimson Tide in the third position and undefeated Cincinnati in the fourth spot.

Herbstreit had Michigan and Oklahoma sitting on the outside looking in at No. 5 and No. 6 respectively.

Herbstreit’s top four teams are fairly interesting. Georgia being the top team makes a ton of sense. The Bulldogs have proven they’re the best by demolishing their competition week in and week out. Georgia’s offense is efficient and explosive and the Bulldogs have arguably the best defense in the country, which is a winning combination.

However, there are arguments to be had about who should be at No. 2 and No. 3. Herbstreit placed Ohio State and Alabama there, but both the Buckeyes and Crimson Tide have already lost a game so far this season.

Even though the Bearcats are unbeaten and have looked pretty good throughout the year, Cincinnati is going to have a hard time gaining respect from a lot of folks given the conference it currently competes in.

But there’s still plenty of time for all of this to work itself out. One great thing about college football is that the regular season has a lot of significance and importance. Let’s just wait and see how things shake out down the stretch.
