When is the last time Penn State beat Ohio State in Columbus? The Nittany Lions have a chance to get their first win at Ohio State in a long time.

This Saturday the Penn State Nittany Lions travel west to Columbus, Ohio for their annual game against the Ohio State Buckeyes. The two Big Ten rivals meet as Top-25 teams for the fifth straight year.

Ohio State comes into the game as the No. 5 team in the country. After a rocky start in the first two games of the season quarterback, C.J. Stroud has settled in and looks like a Heisman finalist if the team continues their strong play. With Stroud at the helm, the Buckeyes have scored 50-plus points in four straight games. Their lone loss came to fellow top-10 team Oregon in the second week of the season.

While Ohio State is hitting its proverbial stride, Penn State is trending in the opposite direction. After starting the season 5-0 they have lost two straight games to Big Ten opponents. Last week it was the Illinois Fighting Illini in a thrilling nine overtime battle. Prior to that, they fell at the hands of the Iowa Hawkeyes in another close battle.

Penn State football has not won in Columbus since 2011

The two teams have met a total of 36 times in their history. Ohio State leads the series 21-14. In the last 10 meetings, the Buckeyes have prevailed eight times with both wins for Penn State coming in their home of Happy Valley.

The Nittany Lions have not won in Columbus since Nov. 19, 2011.

Penn State won that game 20-14, which was the first win since the firing of Joe Paterno when the Nittany Lions shut out the Buckeyes in the second half to preserve the win.

Stephfon Green rushed for two touchdowns when Penn State went into the horseshoe and came out on top. Matt McGloin was the Penn State quarterback at the time who threw for 88 yards and an interception but it was enough to outduel Braxton Miller who was held to 83 yards and a touchdown. Miller also rushed for more than 100 yards and a score in a sign of his potential that would lie ahead.

Penn State could get its first win in Columbus in 2021

Penn State is battling against Ohio State in the Shoe and has tied the game in the third quarter. Both teams have 17 points and this looks like it’s headed for another classic finish between the two Big Ten East schools.
