The annual rivalry contest between the Michigan Wolverines and Ohio State Buckeyes was viewed by a pretty large group of people.

While there has been an ongoing discussion about the number of people tuning in or showing up to watch college football in recent years, the Michigan Wolverines and Ohio State Buckeyes had no issue getting an audience for The Game.

As it turns out, the 2021 edition of The Game was the most-watched college football game to ever be broadcast on FOX. It was also the most-watched college football game since the 2019 matchup between the LSU Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide.

A ton of people tuned in for this game.

An enormous crowd tuned in to watch the Michigan Wolverines host the Ohio State Buckeyes

Of course, it helped that Michigan and Ohio State were playing in one of the most exciting rivalries around. The Game is a storied contest and even if it has been a little one-sided this century, it’s always worth tuning in to watch.

Another key factor that helped get folks to tune in was the magnitude and importance of this particular matchup between the Wolverines and Buckeyes. Entering into the game, both teams had College Football Playoff ambitions along with Big Ten Championship Game hopes. The winner of the contest would be in perfect position to go on and be the favorite to win the conference title game and also one of the few teams expected to make the Playoff this season.

With College GameDay and FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff on site, this was clearly the game to watch during this time slot. There’s an argument to be made that it was one of the most important games of the season.

It’s good that a large group of people made sure they tuned in to catch it.
