A church in Norman, Oklahoma has a sign out front of it pleading for five-star quarterback Caleb Williams to stay with the Oklahoma football program and not transfer.

A Norman, Oklahoma Catholic church is doing its part to convince Oklahoma football player Caleb Williams to stay put and keep on playing for the Sooners.

With former Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley taking the USC job, Oklahoma has not only taken a massive hit on the recruiting trails, but many players are expected to hit the transfer portal. The biggest name skipping town is former starting quarterback Spencer Rattler. Though Williams won the job over Rattler mid-season, he could potentially leave Norman after his true freshman year.

The expectation is Oklahoma will get someone of note to replace Riley as its head coach. His predecessor/mentor Bob Stoops is serving in the interim as the Sooners head coach ahead of their bowl game. While Williams is a Washington, D.C. native, it is hard to imagine he would walk away from a starting job he earned after Red River only a few months ago. Then again, this hire matters.

Will Oklahoma take a hit in this year of transition? Definitely, but Williams will only be a true sophomore in 2022. He has his whole college football career ahead of him and he gets to quarterback a great team like Oklahoma. Factor in 2023 five-star Malachi Nelson flipping to USC after the Riley hire, and this is clearly Williams’ job in Norman if he wants it. He should stay put.

While Boomer Sooner Nation prays Williams will stay, their best hope is to get a great head coach.
