The Ole Miss Rebels have rewarded Lane Kiffin as the Ole Miss football coach is receiving a brand new contract extension.

Lane Kiffin’s hard work has definitely been recognized by the Ole Miss Rebels.

In his second season, Kiffin has put his team in position to compete in a New Year’s Six bowl. The Rebels are 10-2 and were a perfect 7-0 at home. On top of that, Ole Miss got a huge road rivalry win against Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl.

Kiffin has accomplished a lot. And because of that, the Rebels are giving him a contract extension.

The Rebels announced Kiffin’s new contract extension Saturday evening as the SEC Championship Game came to a close. The new deal should be more than enough to keep other teams from swooping in and stealing Kiffin away.

The full terms of Kiffin’s contract extension haven’t been released yet, but the deal won’t last any longer than 2025 because of a state law prohibiting lengthy contracts for state employees. In Mississippi, state employees can only have a contract that lasts for four years.

So, because of that Mississippi law, expect these sorts of contract extensions to be a pretty regular thing between Kiffin and Ole Miss as long as both parties are satisfied with the other. This was a common occurrence when Dan Mullen spent nine years at Mississippi State and it should be a common occurrence for the Rebels and Kiffin.

However, while the length of the contract extension is limited, the amount of money the Rebels could throw at Kiffin isn’t. According to a report from ESPN, Kiffin’s new contract will average around $7.5 million a year.

That’s a lot of money.
