NFL record most interceptions: Who has the most in one year?

The single-season interception leader’s name happens to be Richard Lane, but he was known by many as Dick “Night Train” Lane. Lane, a native of Austin, Texas, played professional football for a number of years after serving in the United States Army, making his way to the Los Angeles Rams in 1952.

During his rookie season, Lane snagged 14 interceptions for the Rams, which happens to be the NFL record that still stands today.

Lane would play another season for the Rams before being traded to the Chicago Cardinals. From 1954-59, Lane continued to play for the Cardinals, making an impact on their defense and occasionally their offense as a receiver.

From Chicago, Lane was traded to the Detroit Lions, where he finished out his career in 1965. Lane ultimately had a remarkable career. He earned the honor of being First-Team All-Pro seven times. He also made the Pro Bowl seven times. Across the entirety of his career, Lane picked off 68 passes.
