The Green Bay Packers have promoted offensive line coach and run game coordinator Adam Stenavich to be the franchise’s next offensive coordinator.

After losing Nathaniel Hackett to the Denver Broncos’ head-coaching vacancy, the Green Bay Packers decided to promote Adam Stenavich from within to be their next offensive coordinator.

Stenavich was the Packers’ offensive line coach in 2019 and 2020 before adding run game coordinator to his coaching duties on Matt LaFleur’s staff. The ground game has been a big reason why the Packers have won 13 games annually since LaFleur took over in Green Bay three years ago. It is very clear what direction LaFleur wants to take the Packers in the next few seasons.

Though this may be a smart promotion from within, it still does not change the fact that Aaron Rodgers loses his offensive coordinator in Hackett and his quarterbacks coach in Luke Getsy in the same offseason cycle.

Green Bay Packers name Adam Stenavich as their next offensive coordinator

Promoting an offensive line coach turned run game coordinator to offensive coordinator would be very on-brand for LaFleur or any other Mike Shanahan disciple. Running the football has been paramount to any branch stemming from the Shanahan coaching tree. However, this promotion could signify yet another step in the imminent breakup between the Packers and the quarterback.

No, Rodgers is not following Getsy to the Chicago Bears because that would be total lunacy. As for following Hackett to Denver, the Broncos are the most likely trade destination for the soon-to-be four-time NFL MVP quarterback. For all we know, Rodgers may be tight with Stenavich, but him losing a pair of offensive-minded contemporaries in Hackett and now Getsy does not land well.

In the meantime, look for the Packers to become increasingly ground-centric in their offensive approach with Stenavich being promoted from within to be their next offensive coordinator.
