The No. 1 Gonzaga Bulldogs have once again come up short of winning the National Championship, as they lost 74-68 to the No. 4 Arkansas Razorbacks.

The 2022 March Madness Tournament field was set, and the Gonzaga Bulldogs were viewed as the favorites to win the National Championship, something they have never done in program history. They were one win away from doing so last year, so there was certainly a belief that this could be the year.

It was not.

The top-seeded Bulldogs were defeated 74-68 by the Arkansas Razorbacks in the Sweet 16 to be eliminated from the NCAA Tournament.

JD Notae led the way for the Razorbacks, scoring 21 points while shooting 9-for-29 from the field. Jaylin Williams recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points (5-for-12 from field) and grabbing 13 rebounds.

Drew Timme scored 25 points for Gonzaga (9-for-19 from field), while Chet Holmgren was fouled out late in the game, where he finished the night with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Villanova advances to Elite Eight, end Michigan’s Cinderella run

This was not the only game that took place at the 7:00 p.m. ET hour. The No. 2 Villanova Wildcats ended the Cinderella run by the No. 11 Michigan Wolverines, winning 63-55.

Jermaine Samuels scored a team-high 22 points by shooting 8-for-13 from the field. Samuels also recorded seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks.

After defeating Colorado State and Tennessee in the first two rounds, Michigan’s run reached its conclusion. Center Hunter Dickinson scored 15 points (6-for-16 from field) and grabbed 15 rebounds.

2022 March Madness bracket update: Who does Arkansas and Villanova play next in NCAA Tournament?

Arkansas will play No. 2 Duke in the Elite Eight, after the Blue Devils defeated the Red Raiders 78-73. If the Razorbacks are to defeat them, they will reach the Final Four for the first time since 1995.

Villanova will play No. 5 Houston, who knocked off No. 1 Arizona with a 72-60 victory. If Villanova are to beat Houston in the Elite Eight, they will once again make it to the Final Four. The last time they did so was in 2018, where they went on to win the National Championship.
