UNC Tar Heels fans reacted to the team advancing to the Final Four to take on the rival Duke Blue Devils in New Orleans.

The UNC Tar Heels, in their very first season without Roy Williams as head coach, are heading back to the Final Four. After defeating No. 9 Marquette, No. 1 Baylor and No. 4 UCLA, the Tar Heels had to contend with No. 15 Saint Peter’s, who have gone on an incredible run all the way to the Elite Eight.

On Sunday, North Carolina defeated Saint Peter’s, 69-49, to advance to the Final Four for the first time since 2017. While their run in March Madness has been impressive, they have a huge matchup awaiting them in Caesars Superdome, and that is against Mike Krzyzewski and the Duke Blue Devils.

Tar Heels fans reacted to the realization that their favorite team is taking on their hated rivals for the first time in NCAA Tournament and has the chance to send Coach K into retirement.

North Carolina and Duke men’s basketball programs have met head-to-head a total of 256 times, with the Tar Heels takin the series with 141 wins to the Blue Devils’ 115.

These teams met in what was their supposed final meeting in Coach K’s career near the end of the regular season. They last met on March 5, where the Tar Heels spoiled Krzyzewski’s final home game against North Carolina with a 94-81 win.

The Blue Devils have been on fire ever since entering the tournament, as the team is motivated to help Krzyzewski enter retirement with his sixth national championship. Given the history of the rivalry between the two North Carolina schools, imagine the bragging rights that the Tar Heels would carry being the ones to end Coach K’s career.

That game will be must-see television on Saturday, April 2 at 8:49 p.m. ET. The winner will take on either the Kansas Jayhawks or Villanova Wildcats in the National Final on Monday, April 4.
