Kevin Love is playing for a resurgent Cavaliers as LeBron and the Lakers drop out of the playoffs. Could LeBron be headed back to Cleveland again?

The 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers that shocked the Golden State Warriors still keep in touch. Often.

“100 percent, We have six of us on there.” Kevin Love told FanSided. “It’s pretty much like the big the super veteran guys that were on that team. We definitely have a great text chain that we had that that we love.”

The team that broke the Cleveland 52-year championship drought — coming back from 3-1 down in the NBA Finals to do it — will forever be remembered. So what about an encore performance? it sounds somewhat crazy, but could the Cavs at least partially reunite for one more year of glory before LeBron James retires in the next few years?

After all, the Lakers are … bad and in all likelihood will miss the playoffs and the play-in games entirely.  James is … still really good in a tight battle with Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo to lead the league in the scoring for the first time since 2008. Remarkable.

James started his career with the Cavs, won his signature title with the Cavs and likes to play on winning basketball teams like Cleveland is right now — still a playoff team despite having dealt with numerous key injuries all season long.

Wouldn’t it make the most sense for James to end his career where he started?

Would the Cleveland Cavaliers welcome LeBron James back again?

“I mean, that’s like a storybook ending for him,” Love said. “I don’t want to project what he may or may not want to do, but where our team is trending and how we’re set up to win for a very long time and how much you know, Cleveland and Akron and all of Ohio loves him. It’d be great to get Bronny over here too and then we’ll call it a day.”

Storybook indeed, entirely possible with Bronny and his Dad playing together as the cherry on top of the sundae.

James will be a free agent after next season. The upcoming Lakers offseason will be an interesting one. Anthony Davis could be traded. Russell Westbrook is not going anywhere with a $47 million dollar player option. The Lakers are unlikely to turn this around next year which could further push James out of Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, the Cavs will have the expiring contacts of Love, Caris Levert, Darius Garland and Collin Sexton. The money will be there to do it. Love could return on a team-friendly deal.

Bronny cannot enter the draft until 2024. How about a two-year deal for James to play the final year of his career with his son back home in 2024. Who says no?

For now, there is the text chain to discuss future plans and bad movie performances included.

“When he got the Razzie for worse actor, we sent him that we thought that was pretty funny,” Love said. “But now he takes everything in stride. There is nothing off-limits. And we have a bond that will never be broken, especially in the way that we not only won that series but how we operated throughout the entire season, just having so much fun, that bond will never be broken. I’ll be seeing those guys. You know, in June for my wedding.”

Love will marry his longtime girlfriend, supermodel Kate Bock this summer with James and company in attendance.

Perhaps there will be a conversation about a wedding and basketball Cleveland, Ohio reunion come 2023.
