The Pittsburgh Steelers got plenty of attention during the 2022 NFL Draft because of when they took a quarterback, but what were their best moves in the draft?

While it may not have been perfect for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the 2022 NFL Draft did yield plenty of interesting pieces from which they can start to rebuild their offense.

The Steelers may have received plenty of attention after drafting Pitt Panthers quarterback Kenny Pickett in the first round, but there were two other draft picks that could potentially have similarly important

Without further ado, here are the best moves made by the Steelers during the draft.

2022 NFL Draft: 3 best moves made by the Pittsburgh Steelers

No. 3: Drafting Kenny Pickett

Pickett is probably a bit of a project at quarterback. It seems like he may not be ready right in this exact moment, but that doesn’t mean that he was a bad choice for the Steelers, who are looking to replace Ben Roethlisberger. Critics will point to how much of Pickett’s college career is a bit underwhelming, but he proved to be a star during his final season with Pitt as he threw for 4,319 yards and 42 touchdowns against just seven picks. If he can continue to develop going forward, the Steelers could have a pretty solid quarterback leading them.

No. 2: Drafting Calvin Austin III

Pickett is probably the most notable pick Pittsburgh made, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he wasn’t the only noteworthy player drafted. Calvin Austin III might fly under the radar for some fans, but he’s fast and showed that he can be a dangerous receiver once he’s able to get some space. Picked up in the fourth round, Austin is bringing some impressive speed to Pittsburgh. Austin can clear a 40-yard dash in 4.32 seconds and had back-to-back 1,000+ yard receiving seasons in 2020 and 2021. He’s quick and will be someone for fans to keep an eye on.

No. 1: Drafting George Pickens

Arguably the best 2022 NFL Draft choice made by the Steelers was when they ended up selecting George Pickens. Now, there’s a pretty big caveat with Pickens in that he’s recovering from an injury that sidelined him for much of his 2021 season with the Georgia Bulldogs, but Pickens has proven to be pretty talented. At 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, Pickens has a pretty solid frame and that helped him when he was able to play for UGA. The Bulldogs don’t really throw the ball around much, but Pickens caught 90 passes for 1,347 yards and 14 touchdowns in his career at Georgia. Assuming he’s healthy, he can help the Steelers rebuild their offense going forward.
