When it comes to MLB rumors involving Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts, these five teams should be the favorites to land him in a trade.

Big MLB rumors are taking shape as expected contenders either see their weaknesses or have clearly taken a turn for the worst. We see this plenty in this week’s edition of the MLB Power Rankings with a club like the Boston Red Sox falling closer to the bottom of Major League Baseball.

The Red Sox happen to have one of the best trade assets out there, shortstop Xander Bogaerts. Despite the team doing their best to finish behind the Baltimore Orioles in the standings, Bogaerts has played remarkably well. Although the possibility of an extension remains, Boston could always trade him this summer then look to re-sign him in the offseason.

With one of the best shortstops in the game playing well on a team going nowhere, we should expect plenty of MLB rumors involving the Red Sox and Bogaerts. As of mid-May, these five teams look like they could be early favorites to pull off a trade for Bogaerts.

5) MLB rumors: Chicago White Sox make sense with a position change for Xander Bogaerts

What would the Chicago White Sox want to do with Bogaerts? It’s pretty simple. They have a hole at second base.

The same way the Red Sox went out and signed Trevor Story this offseason then moved him to second base, the White Sox could do so with Bogaerts. Imagine a White Sox lineup with Tim Anderson at shortstop and Bogaerts at second base. It’s pretty formidable and would give them one of the best young duos up the middle.

Chicago hasn’t gotten much at all out of their regular second baseman this season, Leury Garcia. The position has been a problem for a while now. With far fewer second basemen at the same level as Bogaerts likely to become available this July, they should look to get a little creative and rent the Red Sox start infielder for a few months.

The White Sox are finally turning a corner after a slow start to the season. One of baseball’s exciting young teams would probably not look to keep Bogaerts around beyond 2022. More than likely, Bogaerts is looking to go into free agency and get a shortstop’s contract. He could definitely raise his value following a trade to the other major league team named after an article of clothing—especially if he gets them deep into the playoffs.
