Michigan Wolverines fans were convinced that JJ McCarthy should be the starting quarterback for the rest of the season. The college football world agreed.

Michigan football fans were waiting throughout the offseason to see who would win the starting job between Cade McNamara and JJ McCarthy. Head coach Jim Harbaugh revealed that he would start McNamara in Week 2 and McCarthy in Week 2, then decide who will be the starter for the remainder of the season afterward.

In Week 1, McNamara completed 8-of-16 pass attempts for 136 yards and one touchdown against the Colorado State Rams.

McCarthy did not take long to light up the stat sheets against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. In fact, he did so in one half. Michigan fans and the college football world were convinced that McCarthy is the quarterback that the team should move forward with.

Twitter sold that JJ McCarthy is Michigan’s QB1

McCarthy got off to the best start imaginable. On the very first drive of the game, the quarterback hit Roman Wilson on a deep pass for a 42-yard touchdown. Just take a look for yourselves.

Then, he hit Ronnie Bell for a 13-yard touchdown pass to give Michigan a 28-0 lead at the start of the second quarter. To close out the half, McCarthy connected on a 17-yard touchdown pass to Cornelius Johnson to give the Wolverines a hefty 42-0 lead to enter the locker room.

In the first half, McCarthy was nearly perfect in the passing game. He completed 11-of-12 of his passes for 229 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. McCarthy’s lone incompletion came on a drop by CJ Stokes.

It may only be one half of football for McCarthy in his first start of the 2022 season, but he has some huge support to earn the starting quarterback job.
