Kansas City Chiefs rookie running back Isiah Pacheco scored his first NFL touchdown in his first game, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes retrieved the football for him.

The Kansas City Chiefs had themselves quite the opening game for the 2022 season, as they cruised to a 44-21 win over the Arizona Cardinals. There were plenty of great moments, including a rookie making a statement in their very first game.

In the fourth quarter, running back Isiah Pacheco out of Rutgers scored on a three-yard touchdown run to extend Kansas City’s lead to 44-15. In celebration, Pacheco threw the ball behind the end zone.

Starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes noticed, and made sure that Pacheco received the first touchdown football of his career.

A nice gesture from Mahomes.

The Chiefs selected Pacheco in the seventh round of this year’s NFL Draft. In his four years at Rutgers, Pacheco accumulated 2,442 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns on 563 carries.

This game was all Kansas City, as the offense was too much for Arizona’s defense, and showed that they were just fine without wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Mahomes completed 30-of-39 of his pass attempts for 360 yards, five touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

Meanwhile, Pacheco led the team in carries and rushing yards. On 12 carries, the former Scarlet Knight ran for 62 yards and the aforementioned first touchdown of his career.

It was a game that Pacheco will remember for quite some time, and he has the football to commemorate the very first touchdown of what could be many with the Chiefs. He has the chance to get his second career touchdown this Thursday against the Los Angeles Chargers.
