These three quarterbacks showed in Week 5 that their teams need to consider making a change on the depth chart.
NFL fans know that an offense goes as far as the quarterback can take them. Without a quality quarterback, the teams’ drives on offense stall out, and that means defenses spend significantly more time on the field.
In Week 5 of the 2022 season, quarterbacks like Josh Allen showed why he is one of the best at his position and why the Buffalo Bills are favorites to win the Super Bowl. As for these three quarterbacks, they showed that their teams need to make some changes to their positional depth charts.
The Carolina Panthers are a mess. That is evident by their 1-3 record to start the season entering Week 5. Baker Mayfield has not provided the spark that head coach Matt Rhule had envisioned after they acquired him this past summer.
It was up for Mayfield to help lead the Panthers to a win. Sadly for Mayfield, he had to play the San Francisco 49ers and their impressive defense.
Down 10-3 to the 49ers just before halftime, Mayfield made Carolina’s situation that much work before halftime, as he threw an interception to Emmanuel Moseley, and returned it 43-yards for a touchdown. Just like that, Carolina’s deficit grew to 17-3.
It was an all-around bad performance by Mayfield and the Panthers.
Mayfield completed 20-of-36 pass attempts for 215 yards while throwing one interception. He was also sacked four times for a loss of 16 yards.
There may be more changes going on in Carolina other than at the quarterback position.
