The Atlanta Braves have a chance to steal Jacob deGrom in free agency this offseason and make some other monster additions, too.

The Atlanta Braves weren’t able to repeat as champions in 2022 continuing a theme in Major League Baseball. It’s a bit of a disappointment yet not something that should hold them back from being a contender yet again in 2023.

This offseason will include some big decisions for the front office yet again. Shortstop Dansby Swanson is a free agent as are a couple of other important players.

Atlanta has a chance to improve themselves in some major wins in free agency with some monster deals. One of the most obvious is the potential addition of longtime rival from the New York Mets, Jacob deGrom.

3. Monster Braves free agent target: Jacob deGrom

The Braves can stick it to one of their biggest rivals this offseason by taking away their ace. Jacob deGrom is going to opt out of his contract and hit the open market. The Mets stand a chance to re-sign him. The Braves are the nightmare destination for New Yorkers who bleed blue and orange.

deGrom to the Braves has already been speculated about. deGrom’s openness about opting out began last offseason with a rather candid declaration about his future. Given the Mets’ need to rebuild their rotation from almost scratch, it’s conceivable to believe deGrom slips away.

The Braves may already have plenty of internal options for their 2023 rotation that they can forego making any monster additions in free agency. Even those under contract could become trade candidates. Someone like Ian Anderson could help fetch them a bat they feel is a missing piece.

If deGrom signs with the Braves, it could headline the offseason. We should then expect the Mets to pounce and see if there’s a move they can make to hurt Atlanta right back.

deGrom is hardly the only major free agent for the Braves to look at. These three others could be Georgia-bound.
