The Houston Astros are World Series champions after a dominant Game 6 win over the Phillies and fans were buzzing with memes, tweets and reactions.

When the Houston Astros fell behind 2-1 in the World Series to the Philadelphia Phillies after Game 3, there seemed to still be a belief that Dusty Baker’s team could still make their push to get the manager his first ring. And on Saturday night, that proved true.

Though the Astros fell behind 1-0 on a Kyle Schwarber solo shot in the top of the sixth inning, that woke up the Houston bats in their own right. They got two base runners on and then Yordan Alvarez stepped to the plate and completely blasted a three-run shot over the centerfield fence. They added one more run, making way for the bullpen to get the job done.

And though the Phillies got a man on in the top of the ninth inning, the bullpen was able to get the three outs, including the final one on a foul out to Trey Mancini on the wall, that clinched their title.

After Houston won the 2017 World Series and were later revealed to be cheating rampantly in that season, many considered that win to be tainted, especially since they’d gotten close but not back to the mountaintop since then.

Now 2017 is all but erased by the 2022 victory. They are champions, there were no trash cans, there was no cheating — this was a dominant team that finished with the best record in the American League and then proved that was for real in the postseason.
