Oklahoma Sooners fans were quick to troll former head coach Lincoln Riley, whose USC Trojans blew a 45-30 lead to the Tulane Green Wave in the Cotton Bowl.

So far, 2023 is treating Oklahoma Sooners fans well. Make no mistake about it, this past season for the Sooners football team was not great, as they finished 6-7 in the first year under head coach Brent Venables. The head coaching change occurred after longtime head coach Lincoln Riley left the program for the USC Trojans. Let’s just say that the Sooners faithful had rooting interest in Riley’s games, i.e. his opponents.

Well on Monday, Oklahoma fans watched as USC blew a late 45-30 lead to the Tulane Green Wave, who went on to win the Cotton Bowl by the score of 46-45.

In that final stretch of the game, the Trojans surrendered a four-yard touchdown run to Tyjae Spears with four minutes remaining, were tackled in their own end zone for a safety, and a six-yard touchdown pass from Michael Pratt to Alex Bauman with just nine seconds remaining.

Tulane fans may have been happy after the impressive victory, but Oklahoma fans were downright ecstatic on Twitter.

USC looked primed to win a bowl game for the first time since the 2016 season, when quarterback Sam Darnold led the Trojans to a 52-49 win over Penn State in the Rose Bowl. Instead, they once again end their season without a trophy.

The Trojans got off to a 28-14 lead in the first half after three touchdown passes from quarterback and Heisman winner Caleb Williams, and a touchdown run by Raleek Brown. Yet, the Green Wave were able to get back into the game thanks in part to three touchdown runs in the second half by Spears.

After Spears’ fourth touchdown of the game, running back Austin Jones was tackled in USC’s own end zone, cutting Tulane’s deficit to 45-39. That allowed Tulane to potentially win the game. That became a reality after a 12-play drive, ending with Bauman’s reception, which was called incomplete but overturned on a replay (it was a clear catch).

Whenever Riley loses, Oklahoma fans are ready to celebrate the occasion. It just so happens that his latest loss came on the final game of his first season.
