Milwaukee Brewers rookie Garrett Mitchell joked that he plays better when his wife and pro softball player, Haley Cruse Mitchell, isn’t at the games. She then proceeded to roast him.

The Milwaukee Brewers made quite the statement this week, as they not only swept the New York Mets, who spent big money this offseason, but also outscored them 26-6 in the three games.

In the final game, the Brewers were able to secure the walk-off win over the Mets after rookie outfielder Garrett Mitchell crushed a solo home run off of Adam Ottavino. With that, the Brewers secured a 5-1 record after their first two series of the season.

After the game, Mitchell was interviewed by Bally Sports Wisconsin’s Sophia Minnaert and he joked that when his wife isn’t at the Brewers games, “usually something good happens,” and that when he stepped up to the plate in the ninth inning that “she’s not here, might as well do something fun.”

Well, Mitchell’s wife is professional softball player Haley Cruse Mitchell, who plays for the USSSA Pride in the Women’s Professional Fastpitch League (WPF). Let’s just say that she heard her husband’s quote, as she tweeted out a message to him — “You won’t say it to my face tho.”

Haley continued, saying that Garrett “did not stutter” when making that comment after the game, and that the reason she didn’t attend is because she was “busy stocking his fridge.” Hayley also tweeted out a meme, referencing Garrett’s comments.

Garrett tried to cool things down after the game while in the clubhouse, saying that he was looking forward to spend the off day with her. Haley then responded, jokingly claiming that he’s saying it “trying not to sleep on the couch.”

Mitchell is having a great start to the 2023 campaign. He made the Opening Day roster after a strong spring, where he recorded a .303 batting average, a .303 on-base percentage, a .727 slugging percentage, four home runs, seven RBI, seven runs, and 10 RBI. A top five prospect with the team in 2022, the outfielder has slashed .300/.364/.850, while recording three home runs, five RBI, six runs scored and six hits through six games.

The Brewers rookie learned that his comments do go viral, and his wife Haley does catch wind of them. And, Haley decided to hilariously roast him on Twitter.
