Earlier in the week, an Ole Miss walk-on was killed in a car accident and there is now news that another walk-on within the state has been found dead. Mississippi State Bulldogs walk-on Mitchell Maxwell was found dead at his families home on the Fourth of July. The cause of his death has yet to be determined.

The 18-year-old was set to move in at Mississippi State on Monday.

“My son did pass away. We don’t know at this time what the cause of death is, and we won’t know until the autopsy,” Mazwell’s father, Austin Maxwell said, via the Murfreesboro Daily News Journal. “His (older) brother, Matthew, found him (Thursday) morning at our home. His body was cold, so he apparently passed away some time during the night. Matthew tried to wake him up, and he called the police. After that, he called us.

“This is not supposed to happen. It’s not supposed to be like this. Every year you hear about a senior graduating and then dying. It seems to happen every year now. You just never expect it to be yours.

“We were moving him in to Mississippi State on Monday morning, so he could start classes and walk on to the football team. He was already enrolled. I was going to help him move into the dorm in a few days.”

Maxwell played his high school ball at Riverdale High.

We send our thoughts and prayers out to the entire Maxwell family and all of those who will be affected by the tragedy.
