2014 NFL Mock Draft: Quick look at Round 1

With a number of teams focusing on their offseason plans and preparing for the 2014 NFL Draft, we will begin to hear rumors and rumblings about some prospects that teams will have their eyes on. Thanks to that information, NFL mock drafts will be flying out rapidly and we can begin to predict and discuss what picks may happen.

Of course, an NFL Mock Draft is no exact science and they are far from an accurate look at how things will go down when teams are on the clock, but it is a fun way to drum up some discussion.

  • Bob Jones

Your NUTS-the Rams will go with Jake Matthews. They need PROTECTION for Bradford, not another defensive rusher. Clowney might be just that a “CLOWN” in football gear.

  • http://sbpra.com/paulvsuffriti Paul V. Suffriti

…..have to agree with the Pats picking a TE in the first round. Pats offense is limited and lacking without Gronk on the field. TE is a big need for the Pats offense.

    • Rick

      Pats’ offense is limited?

  • John Huber

Why is the draft always held in New Yuck? LA (Los Angeles) is the media capital of the US.

    • muku

NFL headquarters are in NYC… And its kind off a tradition

      • shawn_jhnstn@yahoo.com

They should have it in the city that has the 1st pick. That would be cool and maybe help create a stronger fan base for the struggling teams at the top of the draft

    • Sammy Z

LA is only the media creation capital of the US, not the media reporting capital.

    • Ishkabibble

L.A.’s got the Kardashian’s if that’s what you mean. Either way, glad you specified LA as “Los Angeles.” For a moment I thought Louisiana was media capital of the US.

  • Joe

The Rams have Chris Long and and Robert Quinn so why would they take Clowney when they need offensive line help and the Bucs are not taking Watkins, This mock draft is terrible

    • Beer O’Clock

Even more, they have William Hayes and Eugene Sims–arguably the best rotational DLs in the NFL. With Hayes wrapped up under a very reasonable contract, Long under a long term contract and Quinn, drafting Clowney would be a major slap in the face not only to Long but Hayes as well.

Sort of a: “Thanks for the great play you two, but we decided to ignore other needs and shove you under the Clowney bandwagon.”

  • Blaine Grisak

Not sure Rams would go Clowney or Robinson. If Rams go O-Line it will be Matthews at number 2, and that’s a big if. With Quinn and Long, the Rams don’t need another DE. It’s nice to have another pass rusher in the rotation, but at two overall you are looking for a starter, not a guy to put in the rotation. At 13 the Rams desperately need a safety which is why I think they would take Ha-Ha. Good Mock though, I haven’t seen one with the Rams taking either of these players. It’s nice to see a different look and the other options.

    • Gary Stewart

blaine the reason you havent seen a mock with the rams taking these 2 guys b4 is because they wont. if we say trade down w/ clev for their #4 and 25ish range maybe if robinson was still there at 25 it might make sense but passing on clinton dix would commit us to another year of potential suffering , unless the rams are convinced trumaine can play safety, in which case we would start drafting corners in this deep class and if the mgmt want clowney at 4 so be it although i would prefer barr but thats just one mans opinion we get the pass rush dont have to use d line rotation and get another guy to fly around in the secondary at the line and in the opposing teams backfield

  • BigJonLilJon

Rams don’t need a DE first of all. Bears wont pick the DL in 1st. They will take HA HA and get DL in second round.

    • Sammy Z

The Bears have such a need for defensive help you could put every defensive player on the board and throw darts and have a better chance of being correct.

  • Johnny

5 OTs mocked to go in the first round???? … I think IF Miami doesn’t get a top 2 or 3 LT..(or maybe even trade up for a top LT)… Then they have to go Guard YANKEY.. Best at his position… Either get a LT in FA or trade for one… IF THEY WOULD HAVE GOT A LT LAST YEAR WE WOULDNT HAVE THIS PROBLEM!!! No way Jonathon Martin was going to be even a decent NFL-caliber LT… Even I can see that… If Ireland couldn’t, he needs to go!!!

  • Sam Gold

Would friggin’ LOVE this Brown’s draft!

  • PJ

No way Manziel makes it to us Raiders in 5Th. Story is Rams want a trade out so whoever steps up will take Johnny boy football. Texans, ?, Jags and Browns all need a QB. We dont need a QB we need linemen on both sides of the ball. No way we take a LB either in the 1st round! This mock is a mock-ery! Come on boys, you can do better then that. Do some homework!

    • Jared Myers

…and no way Reggie McKenzie takes Manziel. Not gonna happen.

    • shawn_jhnstn@yahoo.com

Ur stupid. Since when have the raiders ever drafted what they need. They pick the wrong guy 90 percent of the time don’t they?

      • pjmokate

if that’s a question it’s not worth the time answering and if it’s really a question? who are you calling the idiot? RM will find a way to screw up this year’s pics to. This learning while on the job is costing us valuable time in getting back to smash mouth football AL Davis style! This new regime looks like they need suits to play in instead of football pads! MD, RM and DA are a bunch of F’N pansies!

    • christophorm

you need a QB trust me

  • Ejira Films

Why would the Browns pick up a linebacker? They need a better QB! I can see them picking up a QB

  • Max Stuart

No way CLE takes Barr… we already have Kruger, Sheard, Mingo, and Groves… they will go for Manziel or Carr or maybe Bortles.

  • Eric

Broncos would select Ealy (DE Missouri). I guarantee it. Top 3 corners are gone, and murphy and shazier are gone. That leaves Ealy.

  • isecondthat

Browns might take a linebacker first if they trade down but it won’t be Barr, Mosley or Mack . If they stay at 4 and Clowneys there they’ll do that, they’re not smart enough to take say a watkins or Manziel. Way to soon to predict what the 3 stooges will do.

  • matt

Packers won’t take a tight end first round with all the holes on the defensive side of the ball.

  • TXHammerhead

The fact you have the Cowboys taking a Safety is a joke! It’s only been a strong need since Woody left the team and last year they traded the 18th pick (49ers took Eric Reid) and with the 31st they took Travis Fredrick (A Center! A good one but A FRIGGIN CENTER!) after which Baltimore promptly selected Safety Matt Elam. There is no way that GM Jerry will allow Owner Jerry to have a decent safety in the 1st round.

  • sunshipballoons

What is the point of doing a mock draft when the draft order isn’t even set yet?

  • Caio Gomes

No way Browns go Linebacker in the first round, they need a QB ASAP. THeir defense is solid and miles ahead of the Offense. THey should take a qb, if a franchise qb is not there, they should go offensive line. Then wide receiver…
