Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon won’t be allowed on an NFL field in 2014 and he might miss all of training camp next year. Reports have since surfaced that Gordon considered spending a year in the CFL.

While the prospect of Gordon playing north of the border may give some pause, there is nothing to worry about for the team. As long as Gordon remains on an NFL roster, he can’t sign in the CFL even if the Browns allow it a la Ricky Williams when the Dolphins permitted him to play in the CFL.

That is because the CFL has closed a loophole which previously would have allowed Gordon to make the jump north.

If the Browns were to cut Gordon, that might be a different matter, but that likely won’t happen.

For this season anyways, Gordon will have to stick to flag football in the back yard if he wants to get his kicks outside of the NFL. He will be out of professional football for the next year with little to do but start passing drug tests and in the hopes that he’s allowed to attend training camp in 2015.
