Ray Allen is expected to decide on his NBA future this upcoming week but are the Cleveland Cavaliers fading as a possible destination?

The Cleveland Cavaliers have been frontrunners to sign Ray Allen ever since it was rumored he was coming back this summer and the ever since the team signed LeBron James. But half a season later — and after overcoming a lot of struggle — the Cavaliers and Ray Allen are no closer to a deal than they were six months ago.

If anything, Cleveland may be fading as an option for Ray Allen if he indeed decides to come back for another year.

Brian Windhorst from ESPN.com opines that if Ray Allen is considering the Cavaliers, he may not be doing so for much longer given how they’ve been playing.

“If I’m Ray Allen, I’m not so sure if the Cavs are the greatest fit,” Windhorst opined to ESPN Cleveland. “Cavs right now are rotating just eight men.”

He’s not wrong either, as the Cavaliers have decided that sharing minutes isn’t what they need to do — something that has resulted in an impressive winning streak. It seems that the Cavaliers are finally getting things together in a way we expected them to a long time ago, but that hardly seems like a reason Ray Allen would pass on joining up.

If anything, less minutes to go around in the regular season is more of a reason for Ray Allen to come to Cleveland, as he can continue to transition himself back into the NBA and not be bombarded with minutes.

Then again, he’d be a 19-year veteran of the NBA if he returns in 2015, and he’ll want the respect of at least being able to refuse minutes rather than have them refused to him. Atlanta and San Antonio still seem like better fits for Allen, but until he says otherwise it’s going to be assumed that Cleveland is the frontrunner to land him.
