Carolina Panthers tackle Michael Oher believes the movie based on his life story, ‘The Blind Side,’ has had a negative effect on his career.

Unless you’re a hardcore football fan, or a fan of your favorite team, most people around the world probably wouldn’t recognize the names of a lot of offensive lineman in the NFL. For Michael Oher, the story is a little bit different as plenty of people outside of football are aware who he is.

His life story was put on the big screen as the popular film ‘The Blind Side’ and became an instant hit, which saw Sandra Bullock win an Academy Award for her performance in the film.

However, in real life, Michael Oher doesn’t like the fact that the film brings him so much attention. He feels that the movie is making his career a lot tougher.

After getting in a scrap with teammate Kony Ealy in mini-camp, Oher was asked by the Panthers ESPN Staff Writer if he felt like he had to prove anything, and that set him off.

"“I’m not trying to prove anything,” Oher said. “People look at me, and they take things away from me because of a movie. They don’t really see the skills and the kind of player I am. That’s why I get downgraded so much, because of something off the field.“This stuff, calling me a bust, people saying if I can play or not … that has nothing to do with football. It’s something else off the field. That’s why I don’t like that movie.”"

In the NFL life can be tough for offensive lineman if you’re hearing your name called a lot. A lot of times, offensive lineman like it when they aren’t talked about, because that means they are doing their job and not getting their quarterback or running back killed out there. If a lineman’s name is called, it’s either because he plays for that sweet offensive line in Dallas, or he just picked up another holding penalty.

For Oher, he hasn’t been as good as the first round pick that was used on him by Baltimore. While he ended up winning a Super Bowl with the team, he never took that next step to becoming an elite tackle and has been hobbled by injuries. He was cut after one season with the Titans, and now with Carolina is looking to find some stability in his new home.

The movie may have made him famous to everyone, but he also feels like it’s bringing too much attention to his game.
