NFL Rumors: Giants expected to release Victor Cruz

The New York Giants are expected to cut Victor Cruz if he doesn’t take less money.

The New York Giants have a franchise receiver in Odell Beckham Jr who the offense will flow through for years to come. Of course, there was a guy not that long ago who emerged and looked to be that guy before injuries damaged his value.

That guy is Victor Cruz, and it appears his career in New York might be over.

According to Ed Werder from ESPN.com, the Giants are expected to release Victor Cruz unless he agrees to a pay cut.

This isn’t all that surprising, as Cruz has barely played these past few seasons and isn’t the No. 1 receiver in New York anymore. Odell Beckham Jr is the man the Giants offense will flow through, and he’s a guy that might lure in other veterans who might be able to get targets with Beckham getting double covered.

Cruz has had the opportunity to be that guy, but hasn’t been able to stay healthy long enough to capitalize on that.

The question is, if he doesn’t take a pay cut with the Giants and is released, can he redeem himself with another team? Cruz was a rising star just two years ago but fell off the face of the earth thanks to injuries and then by being replaced by Beckham. His salsa dancing days might not be over in New York, but he’ll definitely find work in 2016 if his body can hold up.
