The 2014 College World Series has finished up its first weekend in Omaha, and now it’s time to start separating the pretenders from the contenders in regards to the national championship; and that moves along on Monday with a match up between the UC Irvine Anteaters and the Vanderbilt Commodores.

This match up is in the winner’s bracket, meaning that these two teams had quite the enjoyable time over the weekend in their openers on Saturday.
UC Irvine, who came into Omaha as one of the dark horse candidates to win the title, proved to be anything but as they showed tremendous resiliency to fight back and ultimately defeat the Texas Longhorns, 3-1. This Irvine team can strike at any moment, and they proved that with their win over Texas on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Vanderbilt had a rather easy time with the Louisville Cardinals in their opener, winning by a score of 5-3. They took a 3-0 lead in the second inning and never really looked back from there.
