One thing the Tigers have been in need of is sold relief pitching and that need has the team looking at a familiar face in a not so familiar place to come back to the Detroit bullpen and help out.
According to Jason Morosi, the Tigers are interested in re-acquiring closer Joaquin Benoit from the San Diego Padres before the trade deadline passes at the end of the month.
Benoit has had a good history with the Tigers but his outstanding season this year in San Diego has Detroit wondering how they can get him back. San Diego won’t give him up cheap but there is no doubt interest and it will be interesting to see where this goes.
There are other teams the Tigers can get bullpen help from, but Benoit knows Detroit and if you couple that with the season he’s been having, it’s not hard to see why the Tigers would want him back.
