Orlando Magic want to extend Nikola Vucevic by Oct. 31 deadline
The Orlando Magic and center Nikola Vucevic are talking about a contract extension and to get a deal done before the October 31 deadline.
Although the Orlando Magic have suffered through two terrible seasons (they went 20-62 during the 2012-2013 season and 23-59 during the 2013-2014 season), they have had a few bright spots.

Two of those bright spots, center Nikola Vucevic and forward Tobias Harris, were drafted in the 2011 NBA Draft making them eligible for contract extensions. They only have until October 31 to get a deal done with each player or they will become restricted free agents.
According to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, the Magic want to get a deal with Nikola Vucevic done.
"The Magic and Vucevic are talking. The Faried deal should help set a ceiling on an early extension for Vucevic. The Magic’s stance has been to try and reach a deal before the deadline, but the Magic have made it clear that if they do not reach a deal now, they would extend the qualifying offer and focus on reaching or matching a deal next summer. The number that makes the most sense for Orlando is something in the $10-$11 million per season range. The question is will Vucevic take a deal structured that way or will he wait for restricted free agency and try to swell that number upwards?"
For a double-double machine like Nikola Vucevic, that seems like market value.
Nikola Vucevic averaged 14.2 points, 11.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.8 blocks per game while shooting 50.7% from the field and 76.6% from the free throw line last season. In his career, he’s put up 11.4 points, 9.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.9 blocks and 0.8 steals per game while shooting 50.4% from the floor, 27.3% from downtown and 70.4% from the charity stripe.
