Super Bowl 49 from A to Z

Sherman, Richard
Richard Sherman is one of the best corners in the game. That’s a fact. It can be debated whether Seattle’s base cover 3 scheme hides his weaknesses or simply accentuates his brilliance. Despite hardly ever seeing a throw in his direction, Sherman tied for 35th with 11 passes defensed in 2014, according to TeamRankings.com.
He also finished top-five in Pro Football Focus’ coverage grades and passer rating against.
Even if those statistics (and opinions) were not true, Sherman would likely still insist he is the best. His antics are mostly fun and harmless, much the way Chad (Ochocinco) Johnson used to delight us last decade.
Overall, Sherman was a crucial part of a Seattle defense which finished first in Football Outsider’s overall defensive DVOA (adjusted for quality of opponents) and third in passing DVOA.
