10-year old girl writes heartfelt answer about North Stars on quiz
10-year old girl wants to know why the Minnesota North Stars moved to Dallas.
Even with a new NHL franchise in Minnesota again with the Minnesota Wild, some fans are still upset about losing their North Stars. Surprisingly, there’s one fan in particular who is very upset, and she’s not even old enough to have seen the Minnesota North Stars play a game.
Molly is a 10-year old from Minnesota and, apparently, is a huge Minnesota North Stars fan. Even though the idea of her was not even conceived at the time the North Stars moved to Dallas and became the Dallas Stars 22 years ago. Still, she seems to be very wise for her age if she even knows about the North Stars.

On a quiz in school, Molly was asked the question if she could visit any place in the American Southwest, where would she visit and why? She answered that she would like to visit Dallas so she could ask the Dallas Stars coach why he so selfishly moved the North Stars from Minnesota to Dallas.
Yea, Lindy Ruff! How dare you? You have some explaining to do!
It would be pretty hard for Lindy Ruff to move the team, as he was retiring from his playing career at the time the North Stars moved to Dallas. The North Stars moved to Dallas in 1993 after the owner at the time, Norm Green, decided on relocating the team. Green originally wanted to move the team to Los Angeles, but there were already talks of an expansion team being placed in Los Angeles (hint, it’s that team that’s won two Stanley Cups in the last three years), so Green chose to relocate the team to Dallas as the second option.
There were many reasons that led to the decision for Green to move the team. The team struggled to sell tickets as a result of the team struggles on the ice, so the team wasn’t very profitable. Green was also pushing for a new arena in either Minneapolis or St. Paul, but was unable to get a deal in place. Also, Green was being sued for sexual harassment and his wife was threatening to leave him unless he moved the team. So, there’s that.
So, the person Molly is really looking for is Norm Green. Maybe when she’s a bit older, someone can just show her Norm’s bank statements and simply say ‘this is why.’
She also added in her answer that she wants to see the difference between Minnesota and Dallas, thinking that maybe there’s something that Dallas has that Minnesota doesn’t and that’s why they moved.
This is what we’re teaching kids these days? That one city isn’t as good as another? Come on NHL, wise up.
Molly will understand one day why the North Stars had to move, and hopefully she takes it well. It’s great to see such a young girl be so passionate about her hockey team already, especially one that she wasn’t even alive to witness herself.
Unfortunately Mollly, that’s the life of a sports fan, the sport will break your heart sometimes.
