Giants reportedly interested in free agent defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh
NFL free agency begins on March 10, and when it does, Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh will be not only the most sought-after free agent available, but one of the best to hit the market in years.
A report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter indicates that the New York Giants will be one of the teams throwing their hats into the ring when it comes to Suh.

Schefter went on ESPN New York’s “The Michael Kay Show” to talk about NFL free agency, and named Dallas, Washington, Jacksonville, and “maybe the Giants” as potential suitors for Suh.
“It’s all speculation at this point in time,” he added.
Every team that gets involved with Suh will have to be aware that big money is going to be involved. Schefter said that Suh is believed to be looking for the best offer he can get, which, as Schefter pointed out, could be in Florida or Texas, states with no income tax. He also added that Suh can expect to get “guaranteed money well north of $50 million” as a free agent.
The fact that Suh is looking for the most money should help teams like the Giants and Jaguars, who haven’t been successful lately, but can win a bidding war. Washington, of course, has won their fair share of free-agent bidding wars, but they should be wary about giving big money to another defensive tackle after what happened with Albert Haynesworth. Of course, “should” doesn’t mean anything when it comes to Dan Snyder.
Suh will hit the market after the Lions decided against using the franchise tag on their star defensive tackle, which would have cost an obscene $26.9 million for 2015.
The Lions haven’t been mentioned much when it comes to bringing back their defensive anchor; it’s largely assumed that they won’t be able to win a bidding war, and Suh would seem highly unlikely to give any sort of a hometown discount.
As usual with NFL free agents, teams should be wary of giving so much money to one player. There are actually a lot of similarities between Suh and Haynesworth; both are/were dominant defensive tackles great against both the pass and the run; both are expected to command $100 million contracts; and both have a history of stomping on people’s heads on the field.
When it comes to Suh, that likely won’t stop teams from going after such a defensive difference-maker, but they should at least be wary. The team that signs him will have to hope he’s more Reggie White than Haynesworth when it comes to big-money free agent deals.
