Despite the loss in the Final Four, this weekend wasn’t a total wash for Kentucky head coach John Calipari who is being inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

It was a rough weekend for John Calipari, as the Kentucky Wildcats watched their perfect season come crashing down thanks to Bo Ryan’s Wisconsin squad.

But while the Badgers and Bo Ryan got the upper hand on Calipari’s Kentucky team, it’s Coach Cal who will have the last laugh on Bo Ryan. Despite the difference in age, John Calipari has beaten Bo Ryan to the Basketball Hall of Fame, which is a small victory on a weekend where a perfect season was ended by the Badgers.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman, the Kentucky head coach is going to be among those elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame this year.

But that’s not the best part. Calipari, a man people love to hate, apparently got into the Hall of Fame by the minimum amount of votes you can possibly have and still get elected.

That’s going to make fans reveling in the Wildcats’ failure this morning even more gleeful, but it doesn’t change the fact that John Calipari is in the Hall of Fame.

The next question is, can he be okay with having success at only the college level? For a man as driven as Coach Cal is, he may want to go back an erase his failures at the NBA level next. Of course, there is unfinished business two years in a row at Kentucky, as two straight seasons have ended short of hoisting a national championship.

If Calipari can get guys like the Harrison twins to come back for one more season, then he may have something special to mold. But should this nearly prefect team disband, then Calipari moving back up to the NBA ranks where he’s failed before seems like a more interesting option.

Either way, the man is in the Basketball Hall of Fame, and he really doesn’t have to do much of anything else to secure his legacy in the sport.
