“Haven’t been there before”

The Golden State Warriors have not reached the conference finals since 1976.

Obviously (or not so obviously, depending on who you are), the above sentence has no impact on the 2015 playoffs. However, this particular group has never advanced past the second round, and with a rookie head coach and a rotation that doesn’t feature a single player with “title experience”, there could be something to the worries about playoff exposure.

Traditional NBA thinking dictates that teams must “suffer” together, usually with a brutal loss, before ascending to title heights, and this group doesn’t really have that. Stephen Curry and company have reached the playoffs in two straight seasons, even winning a series in 2012-2013, but nothing resembling a title push has ever materialized, and even with an overhauled roster complete with veterans, this will always be a question.

From a personal standpoint, I don’t believe that this is a significant hindrance, and I am obligated to say as much. With that out of the way, the Warriors must silence any doubt about their style of play and lack of experience in order to satisfy the “old guard”.
