ORIGINAL

By all practical notions, this should be the time Serena Williams is slowing down. And yet, here she is playing some of the most dominant tennis of her professional career. With Saturday’s French Open victory over Lucie Safarova, Williams notched her 20th singles Grand Slam title and continued moving up the historical ranks.

At 33 years of age, Serena has now won the last three Grand Slam tournaments (dating back to last year’s US Open) and has a slam winning streak of 21 consecutive matches. Should she take Wimbledon later this summer, it will mark the second “Serena Slam” of her career – between 2002-03 she held every major title.

In historical terms, Serena now sits at third all-time for majors – trailing only Steffi Graf (22) and Margaret Court (24). In regards to the Open Era, she sits in second just behind Graf.

For a visual representation, here’s a list of the all-time women’s singles Grand Slam winners who have five or more majors.
