MLB Trade Deadline: 5 Impact Players That Could Be Moved Through Waiver Trades
Aaron Harang – Philadelphia Phillies
Aaron Harang has had an up and down season thus far for the Philadelphia Phillies, but for the most part, he’s been a fairly serviceable starter in 2015. A 5-11 record is more of a sign of his the team behind him, whereas the 3.97 ERA, the 4.01 FIP, and 6.2 K/9 ratio foretell an arm that has back of the rotation help written all over it.
Signed only to a one-year deal heading into the season, his early success had the Phillies gauging interest in the 37-year-old right-hander heading into the deadline. However, we all know the Phillies had bigger fish to fry by moving Cole Hamels, Jonathan Papelbon, and Ben Revere first, giving them the much-needed injection of prospects the team was badly looking for. Now with those moves behind them and a foot injury behind him, the Phillies can turn their attention back to flipping Harang and make his signing a double-win for the team.
Harang could be a fit in Pittsburgh, but the Pirates added J.A. Happ at the buzzer and now seem set in their rotation. If the Dodgers are unable to find a solid piece, a reunion with Harang could make sense there as well. Additionally, the Yankees and Twins could also look to add a rotation piece before the postseason.
Aaron Harang is far from the dominant starter you look for in a trade, but he’s the bargain you typically find on the waiver line that helps a team down the stretch.
