Here is where buyers become big-time players. The Toronto Blue Jays have had a reputation of not getting enough done at the MLB trade deadline and being over-protective with their prospects, waiting for a future that just hasn’t seem to come. Many expected them to follow a similar approach in 2015.
You can hardly fault the team for throwing the deadline on its ear.
Not only did they surprise many by outbidding the big buyers for David Price, but they also snuck in an stole Troy Tulowitzki from the Rockies when many felt they weren’t even going to move him. Add it in the sneaky-good additions of Mark Lowe and Ben Revere and the Blue Jays suddenly have the makings of a team ready to break a 21-year playoff drought.
That all said, they gave up a ton of talent in prospects, in particular Daniel Norris, Jeff Hoffman, Miguel Castro, and Matt Boyd. However, recent drafts have enabled such moves to be made and that won’t exactly leave the system barren. These were moves the Blue Jays needed to make and they finally did it.
